What Google "autocomplete" Recommends in Malaysia from A to Z

Read something interesting in BBC news "Google autocomplete: The Internet Where You Are", it seems that for every geographical differences, the autocomplete will be different, so I decided to make a list for Malaysia too for comparison. Hahahah!

After compiling the list, I think that I am kinda out of date. So, I ended up reading stuffs on google to find out more.

Interesting point:

  • a lot of searches involve government agency (JPA, JPJ, anm, PTPTN, etc)
  • banks are in the list too. So, I guess that Malaysians really embraced internet banking? (cimb, maybank2u, rhb, public bank)
  • Facebook is the dominant search in Malaysia, Britain, US, India, Hong Kong and Nigeria
  • except the western countries, "xe" - a currency exchange site is very popular, well, at least in Malaysia, India, Hong Kong and Nigeria
  • mobile phone companies are among the top searches
  • a lot of people read online newspaper (berita harian, harian metro, utusan)
  • xiaxue is really a famous blogger
  • roti kaya is not a bread, but a entertainment news website (I really thought it was the "roti kaya")
  • Malaysians love football. Watching the game though, not playing. (Euro 2012, livescore)
  • People love get rich scheme, "VGMC" is a gold investment thingy, but maybe I am wrong, it looks like a scam.
  • "oh bulan" is not a poem, but a website on celebrities
  • People like gossips, celebrities news. (oh bulan, roti kaya, beautifulnara)
  • Malaysians love Japanese manga, the top searches on "N" is Narutoget. A website on everything Naruto
  • airasia and firefly are on the list, budget airlines are the in-thing right now. MAS, our national carrier not in the list. Haiz!
