When I read the newspaper, I thought an advertisement on a page was the advertisement for the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale due to the big "RM8 nett each"!

Apparently, Popular Book Store is having sales from 13th Dec 2013 to 12th Jan 2014. So they are offering selected novels for RM8. From the advertisement, two books are from Daniella Steel, one from Nora Roberts, "The New Frugality", "The Good Guy", "Green", "Sealing the Deal", etc. Well, after going to three Big Bad Wolf Book Sale, the deals here seem so meh. However, if one misses the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale, one still can go to Popular Book Store to pick up some cheap books.
Although Popular Book Store very often offers books on their retail price, I did buy cheap books from the book store before. For me, book under RM10 can be considered affordable. I bought the below books few years ago from a clearance sale in a Popular Book Store in Petaling Jaya. I still remember I grabbed a book about golden ratio because I thought the price was RM6, it's not, it was around RM86 (if I remembered correctly), the price was too expensive for a student budget back then, so I put the book back. However, after the Big Bad Wolf, I don't think I will ever pay retail again for books!
I think Popular offers this kind of RM8 nett promotion due to the competition from Big Bad Wolf Book Sale. It is good, it helps to drive the price down for the books, good news for books lover!
Below photos show the affordable books I got from Popular Book Store a few years back. Although the sticker on the book shows RM24 for 3 books, I remembered I got for RM5 each, very worth buying, especially the "Mother Nature: A History of Mothers, Infants and Natural Selection", it is a 582 pages thick book. Hahaha! It's a really good book, apart from the price, of course. It gives explanation on many things, such as why mammal lives many years more even though already hit menopause (to be able to take care of the children until they become independent to increase the surviving rate), how orphaned animal survives, something on Darwin, etc. I am surprised that I enjoyed this book.

I think I will only buy books when they are on sales, even though I cannot get any latest book. Delayed gratification is good for wallet!
