Nature Republic (Snail Therapy Mask Sheet)

Nature Republic (Snail Therapy Mask Sheet)
This was another mask that I bought from Korea, from Nature Republic too. I was a bit scared because the last Nature Republic mask that I used cause prickling sensation right after it touched my face.

From the package, it states that the mask contains snail secretion filtrate (not much actually, 100 ppm only)  and it claims it will make the skin firm and smooth by supplying moisture and nutrition to dry skin. It caused a bit tingling sensation to my face, but I chose to ignore it because earlier, I applied some of the liquid on my palm and nothing happens. So, it is not a sensitivity issue. Well, I don't know whether it hydrates my skin or not, but it definitely makes my skin smoother. However, it only lasts for one day. Hahahah!

I read something on rocketnews 21, title "Woman Puts Snails on Body For Cosmetic Effects, Unintentionally Causes Mollusk Massacre". The original news came from Sina News (in Chinese). A woman discovered the benefits of snail mucous, however she was reluctant to buy the snail cream because she thought that it was too expensive. So, she went back to nature and bought living snails from the market and let the snails spread their mucous on her body (face included)! Initially, everything was fine, her skin became softer and cleaner, she even told her friends about the miracle of snails. However, after one week, the snails started to die off. So, she got worried. She brought the dead snails to a veterinarian, the autopsy result showed that the snails died of alcohol poisoning. She was baffled at first, then the veterinarian analysed that maybe the toner or other skin care that contained alcohol was the main culprit. Although the living snail mucous is proven by this story that it will improve the skin condition, there is another concern, there is a possibility that the snail will carry parasites, so beware!

Now, another beauty treatment using snail!!

A clinical beauty services provider in Ebisu, Japan is providing “celeb escargot” beauty treatment course (セレブエスカルゴコース), which literally means snails crawling all over the face, but that is an option though, need to add another 10500 yen for the living snails experience. Quite gross!

According to the narinari website, the secret of snail secretions was unveiled when the escargot farmer in Chile discovered that their wound healed faster after accidentally splashed with the snail mucus. Anyway, now it has become a huge commodity in skin care industry!
