Winter Holiday in Hokkaido (3)

31st December 2012 - Sapporo 札幌

Since the weather forecast predicted that it would be a day with snow storm. We decided to go to the Chocolate Factory of Shiroi Koibito 白い恋人 because it was indoor. Other places were not so suitable because we were scared that we would be stuck in the middle of nowhere if the snow storm became serious.

We slept until very late since our only plan was to visit the chocolate factory. I was grateful that the hotel we were staying has a convenience store on the first floor, I just went to the shop and bought my breakfast. Another plus point was the hotel was very near to the train station!

Then, we took the train to go to Miyanosawa Station 宮の沢駅. The factory was just a few minutes walk from the train station. A lot of tourists were heading to the same direction, so we didn't have to look into the map to find our way, just follow the crowd. Actually, the signboards were very easy to follow.

After we reached the chocolate factory, we were awed by the cute decorations. So, we posed here and there to take photographs for quite some time, behaved like children. Then, we went inside the factory and bought tickets. We decided to join a biscuit decorating course for fun too.

There were lots of cute collections inside. Of course, we took more photos.

Another interesting exhibition was the gramophone hall. One of the gramophones was made by Thomas Edison himself! Gramophone always have the romantic air about it, the oldies, the 30s. Hahahaha!

Then, we went to our biscuit decorating course. It was fun. Hahaha, to avoid wastage, I used up all the white chocolate they prepared, I drew many things on the heart shaped biscuit. Some of my friends sucked all the chocolate out and ate it. After drawing, the staff would take the biscuit and baked for half and hour to harden the white chocolate. Then, it would be sealed and packaged into a box. However, the expiry date was only one month. So, although I planned to keep it for long initially, I ate this just before the expiry date before it went stale.

my own creation! Well, sort of!
Then, we had lunch in the cafe. They had really good looking cakes. Well, delicious too. Just the price was a little steep. Another awesome stuff from this cafe was from the windows, we could see the beautiful karakuri clock movements too. The presentation was on for few minutes every hour. From here, we could see that the snow storm was harsh. So lucky to be indoor!

Then, we toured there and visited all of the nooks and crannies. Then, the day was getting darker and the snow storm seemed to be subsided a bit, so we went back to Sapporo. That day was 31st December 2012, so we decided to reward us with a grand dinner. We went to a yakiniku restaurant, the price per person was around 6000 yen, the star attraction of the restaurant was the Genghis khan lamb. Well, everything was barbecued, so I couldn't really taste the meat. We had a lot of food there though, so full!

After dinner, still more than 3 hours before New Year, so second round to a restaurant with karaoke. We sang and drank until New Year and wished everybody a Happy New Year! We talked about our New Year's resolutions and hopes for the future. What a way to celebrate New Year!
